Libation to Wine

An old saying has it that wine is the tonic of love, creativity, imagination. The wonderful Eucharis Estate, born out of the love, creativity and imagination of its owners, seems to pay a tribute to nature itself, offering our souls old wine.

It all started by simply looking for a country house not to far from Athens. Eva and Charis Antoniou, after visiting several regions went to this one as well, as the foot of mount Geraneia, between the Corinthian and the Saronic gulf. It was the only place that awakened Eva’s childhood memories with the sweet smell of nostalgia. Eva is from Germany and her long-lasting dream to have a vineyard of her own was coming to life again, while Charis, lover of fine wine and nature, was also flirting with the idea, thus it did not take them long to make the decision. Their names were combined in one only to create the charming Eucharis estate, which encloses the love and passion of its owners for fine quality wine.

The climate was ideal for the growth of vines, studies began, the first plantations took place and the first experimental bottling began in 1991. Moderate was slowly becoming good, good became better and finally came the initiation to the precious art of quality wine making which gave them the expected result. Eva took on wine making lessons and discovered that in the beginning things weren’t exactly as they had planned them, let alone easy.

While the first soil analyses were more than encouraging, it turned out that the subsoil was rather hard. However, Eva and Charis did not lose their courage. The dream turned into a vision and it was now lying at their very hearts. And the more they believed in it, the more sure they were of the result. At some point, the problems were finally solved and the first plantation works begun in 1995.

Today, the wonderful vineyard which constantly expands, grows unique varieties like merlot, chardonnay and Grenache rouge syrah, while the owners’ hard work results in the blending of delicate taste and tasteful intoxication.

Keen lovers of nature, Eva and Charis have made their dream come true in a scenery that respects the surrounding environment, even if technologically speaking, it is considered one of the most modern.

The Eucharis Estate is considered by far one of the most beautiful and successful in Greece, a fact also proved by its many international distinctions in wine competitions. The course of continuous evolution is endless. Goals are redefined all the time. The level of success is rising higher and higher. Shortly after 2000 the owners created a high standard wine hall, ideal for all kinds of events and for a clientele that insists on the finest levels of quality and gastronomy.

In an atmosphere harmoniously combining old and new, full of nostalgia and childhood memories, the main building of the Estate captures the sight in its every corner. Wood and stone impress through their simple but characteristic power play, while antique furniture add even more glamour to the place, taking us back to times past. The exterior is enchanting, evergreen, solid and full of emotions of serenity in every path. Wherever you turn, there is pure nature. Pergolas, mulberries, roses and somewhere in the middle an old stone wine-press with a cistern for must, Eriphyle, which will take you back in time. This place has always been blessed, born to make wine. Perhaps, it stoically waited the ones who would have the insight to feel it and give it its old identity back. Truth or tale? I wonder… No one can say for sure. Only the vines, which Eva treats as if they were animate. She talks to them, caresses their leaves, listens to their needs, patiently waits for their seed and they are grateful enough to provide their precious nectar.

It sure takes a lot to make the perfect wine. Most of all, however, it take love and care. And this is something the Eucharis Estate owners have learned well enough by now. That’s why they can pride and fight only for what’s best.
