In the blue embrace of the sea

Like a boat which has dropped anchor right in the middle of the Aegean Sea because its crew had found no more beautiful a harbour on their travels. Because it pleased the crew to see the sun turn red each morn and each eventide. Because it pleased them to gaze at the islands of the Cyclades and at the sea, which seemed to stretch out endlessly before them.

The location

The group of traditional-style buildings which make up the Altana Hotel is situated at the highest point of the Caldera in Imerovigli. Thanks to its privileged position, the hotel has an uninterrupted view in every direction: to the volcano and neighbouring Cycladic islands, Ios, Sikinos, Folegandros, Anafi and even as far as Crete.

The philosophy

The traditional settlement which is now the hotel is more than a hundred years old. The people who restored it and made it what it is today wisely chose to keep the decoration as simple as possible. Nature has taken care of the rest. In complete harmony with the hotel’s setting close to the Aegean Sea, the dominant colours are white and blue. These two basic colours are frequently enriched by the crimson blossom of one of the bougainvilleas which tastefully adorn quiet corners of the hotel's grounds.

The hospitality

As the Altana’s greatest "bounty" is undoubtedly its location, the owners have taken care to share it fairly with their guests. The hotel boasts a stunning swimming pool and has outdoor hydromassage facilities, while each room has a spacious balcony from which guests can admire spectacular uninterrupted views. The decoration inside the rooms is similarly simple in style. Curves everywhere soothe your spirits, the majesty of the colour white envelops you, windows open out towards an endless blue. Each room is air-conditioned, with a private kitchenette and a safe. Among the two-roomed studios, the Studio Romantic and the VIP Suites, the Honeymoon Suite, which is at the highest point within the complex, definitely stands out. And the Honeymoon Suite has not been idly named. The Altana makes a perfect setting for those who want their wedding ceremony to take place on the most beautiful island in the Cyclades.

The Kafeneio

The Kafeneio, designed in the style of old-fashioned traditional Greek coffee houses, is an ideal spot to have breakfast, have a couple of games of backgammon or chess and sample some local savoury or sweet specialities which go so perfectly with the local ouzo. This may well become your favourite spot!

Options
